The rule

Grey area. Retail forex/CFD trading is not illegal for individuals, but there is NO local CNV-authorised retail forex/CFD offering - brokers serving Argentine retail clients are offshore and NOT registered with CNV, so they operate outside Argentine regulation and investor-protection schemes. To be a legitimate local intermediary a firm must be a CNV-registered agent (ALyC); verify any agent at https://registroagentes.cnv.gov.ar/ (search by name, CUIT or registration number). CNV publicly warns that platforms offering forex/binary options/crypto not registered with it fall outside its competence. Register: https://www.cnv.gov.ar/sitioWeb/RegistrosPublicos/Agentes

What the cap actually is

No local CNV regulatory retail leverage cap exists, because CNV does not authorise a domestic retail forex/CFD product. Leverage is set entirely by the offshore broker under its home regulator - commonly 1:30 (EU/UK/AU tier) up to 1:500+ (offshore tiers). Not found in research: any CNV-imposed leverage limit for retail.

How many of these firms are licensed here

Of the 53 brokers we measure for Argentina, 19 hold a local licence and the rest onboard residents through a foreign entity. That is not the same as being unregulated — it is a different question, and the broker pages name the entity in each case.

4 of them carry a warning from a regulator somewhere. A warning does not change a computed score here, but it removes the firm from beginner selections.

Warnings and where to read them

Yes - CNV publishes an investor-alert / warning list ('Alertas al Inversor' / 'Advertencias') of unauthorised persons and platforms offering forex, binary options, crypto and unregistered investment/advisory services, typically firms based abroad. As of 2026 the list is live in CNV's 'Proteccion al Inversor' section - https://www.cnv.gov.ar/SitioWeb/ProteccionInversor and https://www.argentina.gob.ar/cnv/alertas-al-inversor. Named example firms in an official CNV alert: Not found in research (list is dynamic; check the CNV pages). As of mid-2026.
